When the road ahead is thoroughly unappealing….

This was the view at the start of my 10k run early yesterday morning. Cold, wet and bleak….  everyone struggles with motivation sometimes, which is where exercise discipline creates positive habits that transfer across to many areas of life. Habit is a predominant part of our make-up. Exercising when you don’t feel like it creates a habit of just knuckling down and getting started when you may not feel like it – and getting started is usually the hardest part… this applies to a run like mine yesterday, or writing a laborious report for work, or doing the household job you’ve put off for weeks. Plus, it’s worth remembering that sometimes the outcome will surprise you – in my case a new personal best time – not at all what I expected when setting off wondering whether I was a bit nuts and should put off the run to the afternoon!
