Exercise & Longevity #2 Impact of falls as we age

For someone over the age of 65 who falls and breaks their hip, the one year morbidity is 30-40% –  ie. there is a 30-40% chance one would die within a year. Unsurprisingly, there is a direct link between falling and balance.

Some of the exercises which significantly improve balance include:  Lunges, Bulgarian Split Squats, Cossack Squats, Step ups, box jumps. The programs I design incorporate these and other unilateral and dynamic movements, either in the main strength/resistance session or in the circuits.
