Benefits of Weight/Resistance Training (“RT”)

RT can prevent glucose intolerance and diabetes (and in some cases improve it)
Fat Loss – weight control and obesity prevention (via an increases in metabolic rate and insulin sensitivity
Decrease risk of cardiovascular diseases – RT can be very effective in lowering blood pressure and improving blood circulation.

Increasing and restoring bone density – Inactivity, ageing and menopause can lead to a decrease in bone density and subsequently an increase in brittleness. RT is the only way to increase bone density and prevent osteoporosis.

Regular physical activity reduces the risks of some cancers, especially colon and breast cancer.

High intensity RT promotes testosterone and growth hormone production

Injury prevention – Intense RT strengthens connective tissues around joints (tendons, ligaments etc) , Improves balance, flexibility, mobility and stability. Stronger muscles and joints can have a dramatic effect on posture which can  mitigate the detrimental effect on our posture of long periods of sitting.

Physical activity including RT appears to relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety and improves mood.

Increased lean muscle mass and muscle strength – Everyone can benefit by being stronger in day to day life and there is also very often a positive carry through effect on sports performance.
