The 40% rule….
I’ve just read a couple of very good books written by David Goggins. As can be seen from the synopsis, his achievements – largely due to his mental strength he has built – are incredible. In essence he says that we operate at 40% of our capability. How do we know when we’re at 40%, well he says when your mind tells you you can’t do anymore, and all the reasons why you should/could stop start entering into your thoughts (“I don’t need to do this” “I might get injured if I carry on” “it’s getting too hard” “I just can’t do any more” etc etc) – well that’s when you know you’e only at 40% and there’s another 60% effort/ability available!
