Significant benefits of strength/resistance training as we grow older

* Falls are the most common cause of injury related deaths in people over 75.
* Falls contribute significantly to hip fractures in older people, many of which are preventable.
* Women account for more than 2/3 of hip fractures

Falls in later life are often dismissed as an inevitable part of growing older, when the reality is many are preventable.

Strength/resistance training is not just for young people – far from it. As we get older our muscles, strength and balance deteriorate. Exercises designed to improve strength, muscle size, balance and mobility can significantly reduce the chances of falling and if there is a fall, the stronger you are the more you are able to put your arms out and have the strength to brace and reduce the impact.

So, one is never too old to start some PT sessions and in many respects, it is the best time!
